PREP ROUNDUP: Mountlake Terrace Terrace duo win Wesco South tennis doubles

MILL CREEK — Joe Kim and Chris Raunio of Mountlake Terrace completed an undefeated Wesco South season with a victory in the doubles championship Friday at Jackson High School.

Kim and Raunio, who were 7-0 in league meets, defeated Jake Lagucik and Youngha Kim of Edmonds-Woodway 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the final.

“They are two of the best boys any coach could ask to coach,” Mountlake Terrace coach Alberto Ramirez said. “They’re very disciplined and dedicated to the sport.

“It was a well-played match by both sides.”

Kim and Raunio advance to next week’s 4A District 1 meet at Stanwood as the South’s No. 1 seed and will meet the Wesco North’s No. 4 seed in the first round.

Meanwhile, Jackson’s Mitch Williamson won the singles championship, defeating Shorewood’s Scott McConnell 6-3, 7-5 in the final.

Wesco North meet: At Mill Creek, Monroe’s Trevor Amsberry won the singles championship with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Derek Thomas of Oak Harbor. Amsberry will be the division’s No. 1 seed to next week’s 4A District 1 meet. Chris Gilmore and Teague Nelson of Stanwood claimed the doubles title.

Boys soccer

Providence Classical Christian 7, Lopez Island 2: At Lopez Island, Andrew Moisant scored goals in the second (Caleb Moisant assist) and the fourth minute (Eric Moisant), Caleb Moisant scored in the eighth (Oliver Thomas) and the 54th minute (Harrison Wartes) and Ryan Morris scored in the seventh (Andrew Moisant) and the 31st minute for Providence Classical Christian (PCC). Harrison Hummel also added a goal for PCC (5-1-0 league, 8-4-0 overall) in the 58th minute. Tahoma Wrubleski scored in the 23rd minute and William Carson scored in the 47th minute (Charlie O’Neill) for Lopez Island (1-4-0, 2-9-0).

Volleyball

North Sound Christian 3, Grace Academy 1: At Mountlake Terrace, North Sound Christian defeated Grace Academy in Northwest 1B action by scores of 25-10, 25-16, 21-25 and 26-24. Tori Speck had three aces, three assists, nine digs, four blocks and five kills, Elisabeth Tissell had two aces, 14 digs and 11 kills, Chantelle Meeks had nine aces, 11 digs and 15 kills and Maylisa Chung had two aces, 28 assists, 13 digs and three kills for North Sound Christian (10-0 league, 11-2 overall). Junior outside hitter Hannah Krumm led Grace Academy (7-4, 7-8) with 15 digs and three kills.
