MARYSVILLE — Marysville-Pilchuck running back Austin Denton ran into the end zone and then the record book.

Another stellar outing for the senior running back helped lead his team to a 49-28 Wesco North win over Oak Harbor Friday and helped solidify his place in M-P football history.

Denton, who rushed for 323 yards on 20 carries, broke Kyle Woods’ single season team rushing record. In 1996 Woods ran for 1,688 yards as a junior. In nine games this season, Denton has racked up 1,919. The state record is 2,677.

League champion M-P (6-0 in league, 9-0 overall) ran away with this one early and remained undefeated on the season. Leading 21-3 at halftime, the Tomahawks came out and scored 21 points in the third quarter.

Denton had rushing touchdowns of 62, 49 and 2 yards.

A.J. Kvangnes (14 carries) ran for 56 yards and two touchdowns and quarterback Zack Hanson ran 11 times for 56 yards and two touchdowns to lead M-P to a total of 443 yards rushing.

Hanson also completed two of three passes for 50 yards.
