Are you a hot shot?
Everett Elks Lodge No. 479 will hold its 36th annual Hoop Shoot Monday at the Everett High School gymnasium, 2416 Wetmore Ave.
Registration for the free-throw contest is at 5:30 p.m. and the competition for ages 8-13 begins at 6 p.m. There is no entry fee.
The national free-throw contest offers three age divisions: 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. Winners from this contest will compete against other Elks Lodges’ winners.

Honoring King: Everett held events to honor the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on Tuesday. Other events are scheduled:
Call to Conscience: Arthur Romano, international educator, speaks about King’s message of nonviolence today at Edmonds Community College. The event is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Mukilteo Hall at the college, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.
Martin Luther King Jr. Citywide Celebration: Romano also speaks at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lynnwood Convention Center, 3711 196th Street SW.
Project Home Fundraiser: A dinner and fashion show will raise funds for homeless students, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Triton Union 202, Edmonds Community College. Tickets are $40 per person or $300 per table. Call 425-640-1246.
Former newspaper publisher visits Camano: Dave Pinkham, former publisher and editor of the Stanwood-Camano News, is scheduled to talk about the role of a community newspaper at 7 tonight at at the Camano Multipurpose Building, 141 N. East Camano Drive. He is visiting a meeting of the Camano Island Democrats.
