PREP TRACK ROUNDUP: Marysville-Pilchuck conquers cold, two Wesco North opponents

MARYSVILLE — Marysville-Pilchuck was in a race against three opponents, Lake Stevens, Kamiak and the weather, and came out on top against all three of them.
The Tomahawks won on both the boys and girls’ sides, by similar scores in the cold, windy and pretty much downright miserable non-conference track meet at Marysville-Pilchuck High School Thursday.
“We were just really happy it wasn’t raining,” Marysville-Pilchuck head coach Randy Davis said. “That was probably the biggest victory, not getting wet.”
Alicia Oden had two big wins for the Tomahawks, winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes, while helping the girls to the meet title with 89 points, well ahead of Lake Stevens (69.5) and Kamiak (30.5).
“Even though it was cold and freezing she ran pretty well and strong,” Davis said. “It was freezing out there and windy but we were pretty pleased with our girls side.”
Brittany Torrence also won her first career event, the discus with a throw of 92 feet, 1 inch.
The Tomahawk boys won handidly too, scoring 84.5 points, followed by Lake Stevens with 65 and Kamiak which finished with 31.5.
Davis singled out Brett Parson’s 127-foot discus throw and Mark Oden’s 5-10 high jump as the highlights.
“(Parson’s) disc is really coming on,” Davis said, also noting that “Mark Oden had a great high jump night.”
The Marysville-Pilchuck coach said the final score wasn’t exactly indicative of the meet.
“It was competitive out there,” Davis said. “We just felt like we stepped up and did pretty well. The competition was great.”
