Prep Roundup: Track and field athletes from King’s, Coupeville advance to state

SHORELINE — Curtis Clauson and Sarah Blatchford won the javelin and pole vault competitions respectively for King’s, advancing to state.

In total, after Thursday’s events, King’s will be sending six boys and four girls to state while Coupeville’s lone state representative so far is Tyler King.

King, a sophomore, won the 1,600 meter event in 4:15.98 beating runner-up Hap Emmons of King’s by 8.5 seconds.

The rest of the events at the 1A Tri-District meet will conclude today and Saturday.

3A District 1 playoffs: At Sedro-Woolley, Shannon Haukup hit a game-winning two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning for Meadowdale in a 4-2 win over Glacier Peak. Alyssa Ruble went the distance for the Mavericks, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out seven Grizzlies. Haukup and Lindsey Milner each were 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for Meadowdale as they advanced to play Mt. Vernon. The Grizzlies were led by Miranda Granger who batted 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Mt. Vernon defeated Lynnwood 11-4 to move on to the consolation semifinal. Lynnwood’s Kelsey Parker went 2-for-4 with two triples and three RBI.
