Q. You have tons of activities. How do you manage to plan out your day?
A. I have a planner and a big white board calendar on my wall. Sometimes I forget something. Not everything fits in. But when things overlap, you pick and choose.
Q. Can you describe your calendar?
A. I’m a little OCD, so I color coordinate everything. Volleyball games are in orange, and honor society meetings are in blue, and birthdays are in red. It’s very full and colorful.
Q. Do you think of yourself as a jock or geek?
A.I guess you could say I was a prep, but I also play sports, so I could be a jock. But I’m in AP classes, and I need to get straight A’s, so I guess I’m a nerd there. I don’t like to put people in cliques or label them.
Q. You’re a school greeter. How’d that come together?
A. This year, ASB (the Associated Student Body) executive council decided we wanted to learn the names of everybody in the school, so four of us decided we were going to do that by standing outside and greeting students as they come in every morning.
Q. So you have to learn 700 names?
A. Yep. I already knew quite a few to start, but it’s hard. I’m not really good with names to start with. And I don’t want to hurt their feelings by asking them three days in a row what their name is, so I’ll try and space it out, who I ask, and also focus on maybe five or six people.
Q.Where are you applying to college?
A.Duke is the dream, but unfortunately, it’s a few thousand other kids’ dream also. I want to go out of state for sure. I’m looking at the East Coast and California, so Chapman and Amherst and Trinity.
Q. Why do you want to go out of state?
A. I want to experience a different part of the world for four years, without having to necessarily move there and start my life over there. Then I just get a different choice than Washington. If I want to come back, I’ll come back, and if not, I’ll move on.
Q. You want to become a corporate lawyer. What drew you to that?
A. I like proving a point and getting people to agree with me and persuading people.
Q. Do you have much time to do anything other than school and extracurriculars?
A. Not really. I’m really good at multitasking so I try to do that. I’m a huge Silvertips fan — we have season tickets — so I’ll find myself doing homework at the hockey game.
Q. What is it about hockey that appeals to you?
A. Playing volleyball and tennis, you’re across the net from your opponent, and so I love the physicality of hockey. It’s just so fast.
Q. What’s your favorite sport you play?
A. I’d have to say I like volleyball more. I think I’m probably better at tennis, but volleyball, you have a team. It’s more social. You rely on one another. That’s kind of nice.
