MONROE — Gene Brazel has been appointed as Monroe’s city administrator.
Last week, the City Council unanimously approved Brazel’s contract. He has served in the position on an interim basis since March.
Brazel will receive an annual salary of $119,700, which is the same as it was when he was interim city administrator. The contract states that he can still be given a raise, but the council has to approve it.
“I appreciate everybody’s support, and I look forward to our future together,” Brazel told the council after his contract was signed.
At its Dec. 14 meeting, the council rejected the same proposal on a 4-3 vote. Their reason at the time was that they wanted to make sure Brazel was the right person for the job. The council talked about searching for other candidates.
Brazel began working for the city in December 1987. On Jan. 1, 2002, he was named public works director. On March 1, he was appointed to the job replacing then-interim city administrator Tim Quenzer who returned to his position as police chief on a full-time basis.
