STANWOOD — Archbishop Murphy’s shooters picked the worst possible time to go ice cold.

The Wildcats shot 20 percent from the field in losing 43-31 to White River in a loser-out state regional girls basketball game Saturday at Stanwood H.S.

“It was a huge disappointment the way we shot the ball,” Archbishop Murphy coach John Basrhanovich said. “We thought if we held them to 40 points, we’d win the game. The defense did its job. Offensively, we just couldn’t get anything going.

The Wildcats trailed by 14 at the half and twice cut White River’s lead to three points in the second half but could get no closer.

“A big part of the game was we committed 26 turnovers,” Barhanovich said. “Give them credit for the defensive pressure they applied to us.”
