EVERETT — Archbishop Murphy claimed its third straight Cascade Conference baseball championship with an 8-1 win over Lakewood Wednesday.

The Wildcats remained unbeated in league play at 15-0 with two games to play. Wednesday’s defeat gave second-place Lakewood three league losses.

“We did it with a new crew,” said third-year Murphy coach Stan Taloff, “with a lot of young players. The seniors stepped up as well. I am very impressed with the new guys we added to the varsity program.”

Winning pitcher Dan Marshbank allowed one run on five hits and struck out seven batters in 51/3 innings. Monday’s starter, Levi MaVorhis, also held Lakewood to one run.

“Lakewood’s a good team,” Taloff said, “and we gave up just one run in each game.”

MaVorhis had a solo home run in the first and an RBI double in the third.

“We hit the ball extremely well and kept the pressure on them from beginning,” Taloff said.
