Prep softball: Granite Falls 5, Burlington-Edison 4

LYNDEN — Granite Falls rallied for a three-run seventh inning in a 2A District 1 winner-to-state semifinal playoff game. Peyton Spencer hit home Chelsea Myntti for the inning’s first run. Haley Brennan came up to bat with two outs and hit a ball back to Burlington-Edison pitcher Bree Lopez, who threw the ball over her first baseman’s head, allowing Granite Falls’ Logan Thomas and Spencer to score the tying and winning runs. Logan Thomas batted 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. In Granite Fall’s 5-2 first-round win ovrer Squalicum, Spencer was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Granite Falls faces Anacortes at 6 p.m. Friday in the district championship game. Archbishop Murphy was eliminated after losses to Lynden (5-4) and Sehome (12-2). Cedarcrest survived a 6-3 first-round loss to Burlington-Edison, fighting its way into Friday’s consolation semifinals with a 13-0 win over Squalicum in a loser-out game.
