The $20,000 Port Angeles Halibut Derby runs Saturday and Sunday, at $40 a ticket for both days or one day. Information and online ticket buying at www.swainsinc.com, or phone 360-452-2357. First place is worth $5,000, second, $2,500, and so on through 30 cash places plus merchandise prizes. Event coordinator Norm Metzler said on Wednesday that some big fish – 178 pounds, 142 pounds, a couple in the 120-pound range – had been weighed over the past week, but most of them were coming from the area east of Port Angeles, through John Wayne Marina. “Most of the action seems to have been east of us,” he said. “Might be because the shrimp are a little scarce around here.”
