Smackdown Salmon Tournament

A new and interesting salmon derby format is due up July 22, 23 and 24, out of Bremerton, which is not a derby at all but a “tournament” in fact. More like bass tournaments around the country, this contest features teams of up to four fishermen per boat, at an entry fee of $1,000 per boat, and they can earn a top prize of 90-percent of entry fees for total weight over the course of the tournament. Each boat may weigh four salmon per day, fewer than the eight they could kill legally, to counter the argument that bass can be kept alive through weigh-in and then released.

Rumor has it that Tom Nelson, John Keizer, Nick Kester and other top guns will be fishing the event, and it will be interesting to see whether the new format catches on.
