SNOHOMISH — The Glacier Peak Grizzlies volleyball team handed Everett its first loss of the season on Tuesday night.

The Grizzlies took the Wesco 3A match 3-1 with set scores of 16-25, 25-22, 25-22 and 25-11.

Grizzlies coach Christopher Pratt said that Everett came out strong in the first set and that his team made too many hitting errors.

“It’s hard to win a game when you keep hitting the ball out,” Pratt said.

But Glacier Peak settled down in the second set and the Grizzlies offense was well-balanced the rest of the way.

Maddi Ober, Ruby Mensing and Miranda Farrell each had 11 kills for the Grizzlies. Mandy Burgess chipped in 36 assists and three aces for Glacier Peak (1-0 league, 2-2 overall).

“Anytime you have three kids in double digits (in kills) it makes it better for our offense,” Pratt said. “The opposing team doesn’t know where the ball is coming from.”

Loretta Forrest had 10 kills and 13 digs, Tenika Wentworth had 21 assists and Jody Barhanovich had 26 digs for Everett (0-1, 3-1).
