Sophomore Emily Crichlow had the hot foot in Meadowdale’s first-round 3A District 1 girls soccer playoff game.
Crichlow scored a pair of goals to lead the Mavericks to a 2-0 victory over Shorewood Oct. 29 at Edmonds Stadium.
“It’s a good step in the right direction,” Meadowdale coach Wade Foley said. “This is all about peaking at the right time. I think from a coaching standpoint the girls are really starting to gel.”
Meadowdale has won eight straight games. The victory sent the Mavericks (14-3 overall) into a Nov. 1 winner-to-state/semifinal game against Mount Vernon, the results of which were not available for this edition of The Weekly Herald. The winner advances to the district title game on Nov. 3.
Crichlow’s first goal was assisted by Alisa Sagdahl, who took the ball down the left side of the field and booted the ball to the near post. Crichlow corralled the ball there to score the first goal at the 39-minute mark.
“It was a great delivery by Sagdahl,” Foley said. “Both players were in sync with each other.”
Allissa Navlet assisted on Crichlow’s second goal at the 68-minute mark.
Meadowdale goalkeeper Ashley Routh wasn’t really challenged during the game as Shorewood chose to play a defensive game, Foley said. “They never really penetrated.”
Foley also credited the Mavericks’ defense, which is led by senior Alexa Thompson.
All four defenders – Thompson, juniors Tisha Parsley and Hannah Shouse, and sophomore Kendall Raecker – previously played forwards before moving to the back.
“Everything starts from the back,” Foley said. “You build from the back.”
