Sen. Chase’s daughter to run in special election

Carin Chase, chairwoman of the 32nd Legislative District Democrats and daughter of state Sen. Maralyn Chase, said today she wants to be the person elected to serve the final month of U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee’s term.

“I am running to represent the 99% in Congress,” Chase said in a prepared statement. “The First Congressional District needs a strong Democrat to continue representing our values during the December session of Congress.”

The special election will be held in the existing boundaries of the 1st Congressional District which includes parts of King, Snohomish and Kitsap counties. The winner will serve roughly one month beginning Dec. 6.

Chase has led the organization of Democrats in the 32nd District — which is made up of communities in south Snohomish and north King counties – since 2008.

Voters in the district have overwhelmingly elected her mom to the state House of Representatives and state Senate.

Chase said she had already decided to run before Snohomish County Councilman Brian Sullivan declared Sunday he would enter the race.

In her announcement, she questioned whether electing Sullivan might prompt a legal fight to prevent his seating unless he abandons his council seat.

We do not need constitutional challenges for a one month term, she says in her announcement.
