Pay attention, 007

The Washington state House has passed a measure to ban gadgets that lets drivers flip between two license plates on the fly.

Luckily for James Bond, the measure does not outlaw tire-slashing hubcaps, passenger ejector seats, rear bulletproof shields, machine guns concealed behind the headlights, and smoke and oil slick sprayers.

Smoke signals: Cardinals will gather at the Vatican on Tuesday to begin deliberations on picking a new pope, and two main factions have emerged: one dominated by the Vatican bureaucracy, the other by reform-minded cardinals.

The Vatican says the process will be guided by prayerful contemplation, which apparently rules out attack ads with taglines like, “Archbishop Scola: Wrong for the papacy, wrong for the church.”

Talkin’ basebrawl: World Baseball Classic officials decided against player suspensions following Saturday’s brawl between Canada and Mexico.

However, they did institute a new rule similar to the one that limits pitch counts: No player can throw more than 18 punches in a single game.
