Basic climbing intro for kids; avalanche class for adults

A couple upcoming classes at REI at Alderwood mall in Lynnwood caught my eye. Here they are:

Two upcoming classes will introduce kids to climbing. All gear is provided. An adult must accompany the child. A class for kids 5 to 7 years old is from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 13, and a class for 8- to 12-year-olds is 6 to 8 p.m. on the same day. Cost is $35 for REI members and $55 for non members. Learn the basics of avalanche safety at 7 p.m. Dec. 9. Learn where and why avalanches occur. Learn about local avalanche bulletins and weather reports and how to recognize the basic signs of avalanche danger. Get more info and register here.
