BAINBRIDGE ISLAND — A fire official on Bainbridge Island said a woman walking with her two grandchildren in a condo parking lot suffered life-threatening injuries when she was hit by a car backing out of a carport.
KING-TV reported that Assistant Fire Chief Luke Carpenter says the male driver didn’t see the woman or the children on Friday. He struck the woman, pinning her under the car, and also hit her 3-year-old grandson. The granddaughter was unhurt.
A nearby construction crew helped fire and rescue teams lift the car off the 71-year-old woman, identified by the State Patrol as Katherine Dunn. She was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The little boy was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The State Patrol says the driver is 91.
