New bike store: Bayside Bikes, 2707 Colby Ave., is holding a grand opening with beverages and giveaways from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. They’re also having a community kickoff featuring community leaders from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on March 25. The shop will offer bike sales, repairs and rentals. Film: The Monroe Library is screening the documentary, “Return of the River,” at 6:30 p.m. March 26 in the Monroe Meeting Room. The film is about the removal of the dam on the Elwha River on the Olympic Peninsula. Refreshments will be provided. After the film, a Sierra Club representative will lead a discussion about ongoing opportunities to protect rivers and wild lands on the Peninsula and across Washington State. Hike: Learn the basics of hiking at the Everett Mountaineers hike essential seminar at 7 p.m. April 1. in the first floor public meeting room at the Snohomish County East Administration Building (Bob Drewel Building), 3000 Rockefeller Avenue, Everett. Experienced hikers will talk about what to wear, what to bring and where to go. Get more info at www.everettmountaineers.org.

Basic boating: The Everett Sail and Power Squadron will be offer a 7-week basic boating course from April 6 through May 18 . Topics include an introduction to types of boats; boating laws, required safety equipment, accident reporting, protecting the marine environment and weather. The course is designed to familiarize students with the basics needed to operate a boat safely and be in compliance with state and federal laws. Upon successful completion of the final test, students will qualify for the Washington State Boater Education card required before operating watercraft in our state. The class will be held at the Harbor Marine Conference Room, 1032 10th St, Everett, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays. $50 non-members/$35 members. Add $20 for a second person sharing supplies.
