Prep girls basketball: Shorecrest 58, East Valley (Spokane) 41

YAKIMA — Uju Chibuogwu recorded a double-double — 15 points and 11 rebounds — as Shorecrest continued its storybook run through the 2A state tournament with a 58-41 semifinal victory over top-ranked East Valley of Spokane on Friday.
Wurrie Njadoe added 15 points and Julia Strand chipped in 14 for Shorecrest (17-10), which plays Lynden, a 37-34 victor over Ellensburg in Friday night’s other semifinal, at 5 p.m. on Saturday for the state title.
The Lions beat Shorecrest 52-45 in a 2A District 1 tournament semifinal game on Feb. 15.
Shorecrest advanced largely on its success at the free-throw line against East Valley, going 21-for-30 at the stripe, compared to the 7-for-17 performance from the stripe for the Knights.
Jordan Phelan led East Valley with 14 points and 11 rebounds, but shot just 3-for-10 from the floor in the game.
Neither team shot particularly well from the field in the game, with Shorecrest making just 17 of 55 field-goal attempts for a 31-percent clip. The Knights were marginally worse, shooting 30 percent (17-for-56) from the floor.
East Valley Spokane faces Ellensburg in Saturday’s third/fifth place game.
