2016 All-Area Boys Basketball Team

Here is The Herald’s 2016 All-Area Boys Basketball Team as selected by the sports staff in consultation with area coaches:
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Corey Kispert, G/F, jr., King’s. Kispert, a first-team all-area selection last year, led the Knights to their second consecutive state championship this season. He averaged 23.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.3 steals per game, and shot 59 percent from the field.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Rick Skeen, King’s. After losing eight seniors from last year’s state-championship team, Skeen rallied the Knights to a second consecutive state title, culminating with a convincing 80-39 win over Freeman in the 1A championship game.
FIRST TEAM
Drew Magaoay, G, sr., Cascade. Magaoay, a first-team selection last season at Shorecrest, transferred to Cascade for his senior season. He averaged 18 points, five rebounds and five assists per game, and scored a season-high 45 points in the Bruins’ 76-69 victory over Kamiak in the 4A District 1 championship.
Isaiah Gotell, F/C, sr., Cascade. Gotell helped lead the Bruins to a 21-2 season, a district championship and an appearance in the state regionals. He scored a Wesco-high 51 points in a victory over Mount Vernon on Jan. 22. For the season, Gotell averaged 20 points and eight rebounds per game.
David Woodard, G, sr., Edmonds-Woodway. Woodard, a senior transfer from O’Dea, averaged 24.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals for the Warriors. He led Edmonds-Woodway to a 21-3 record and an appearance in the 3A state regionals.
Josh Bevan, G, sr., Marysville Pilchuck. Bevan averaged 22 points, 3.7 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game for the Tomahawks. He shot 55 percent from the field, 35 percent from 3-point range and was an 80-percent free-throw shooter.
Sam Saufferer, G, sr., Jackson. Saufferer was one of the area’s top scorers, finishing the season with an average of 23.4 points per game. He scored a season-high 46 points in a loss to Kamiak in the game that decided Wesco 4A’s final spot in the state regionals. He also averaged four rebounds per game.
