Because practice was closed to the public, reporting on the details of practice was restricted. However, here’s a few things we can say:
– The team was in full pads Tuesday, after being in no pads the first two days and just shoulder pads the third day. As a result the intensity went up another notch, with further altercations breaking out during contact drills.
– Wednesday is the first off day of training camp, and because of that a few veterans were given the day off so they could get two consecutive rest days. Those who didn’t participate Tuesday included strong safety Kam Chancellor, receiver Doug Baldwin and defensive tackle Jordan Hill.
– Archbishop Murphy High School grad Taniela Tupou was back at fullback. Tupou, who played defensive tackle at the University of Washington, went through the conversion to fullback during the offseason. However, he spent the first three days of camp playing on defense.
– Cornerback Richard Sherman took the podium today, and he spoke about the value of having all the secondary present and healthy for training camp this year. Last year the Legion of Boom was a shell of itself during training camp, with Chancellor holding out and free safety Earl Thomas still recovering from shoulder surgery. But it’s a different story this year with all present and accounted for.
“[Last year] was a tough camp because Kam and Earl were both sitting out,” Sherman said. “It’s just a different feel when all of us aren’t together. Not to say we’re any more valuable than anybody else, but it’s just a different feel when everybody’s out there and we’re moving, we’re shaking. The energy is different, the energy is a bit more enthusiastic. There’s guys who understand and trust one another. When you get younger guys out there who are unfamiliar with the situations, then you second guess in some situations. You’re like, ‘Is he going to be there, is he not going to be there?’ There was a play today on a post ball where I knew exactly where Earl was going to be, Earl knew exactly where I was going to be. It wasn’t a guess, it was knowledge, it was years of playing together, years of being in very intense situations and trusting. So those things kind of go away when you’re going with another guy. You try to build that chemistry.”
