Report: Seahawks cutting cornerback Brandon Browner

The original Legion of Boom apparently is not getting back together after all:

Browner played for Seattle from 2011-13, and his unusual size for a cornerback at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds was in some ways the definition of the Legion of Boom secondary. He departed after 2013, playing the 2014 season with New England and the 2015 season with New Orleans. After being released by the Saints he was signed by the Seahawks in April to provide veteran depth and versatility in the secondary.

Browner was originally seen as someone who could be used by the Seahawks at either cornerback or safety, depending on the match-ups. However, he found himself being used exclusively as a safety and was comfortably behind Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor and Kelcie McCray in the pecking order. Browner’s release probably aids the causes of Steven Terrell and Tyvis Powell in making the final 53-man roster.

The official deadline for NFL teams to cut their rosters from 90 to 75 players in 1 p.m. Tuesday.

—- UPDATE, 4:30 p.m.

So the Seahawks announced their first wave of cuts and Browner was among them as his veteran contract was terminated.

Seattle made six moves Monday. The other prominent one as placing defensive tackle Sealver Siliga on injured reserve. Siliga was signed as a free agent from New England in the wake of Brandon Mebane leaving for San Diego. However, a calf injury kept Siliga out all of training camp and the preseason. He could still potentially return this season, but he’ll have to go at least six weeks without practicing and eight weeks without getting into a game.

The other moves were waiving linebacker/fullback Kyle Coleman, receiver Montario Hunter and defensive end DeAngelo Tyson, as well as waiving receiver Deshon Foxx with an injury designation.
