Cedarcrest wrestler eyes a state title

Cedarcrest wrestler Parker McBride knows his strengths, and he uses them well.

“He’s dominant from the top position,” RedWolves coach Mark Ward said. “He developed his own style and uses it in a way that’s brutalizing. He can make a good wrestler not want to wrestle anymore. It’s demoralizing.”

McBride finished third at last year’s Mat Classic in the 2A 113-pound division, and has his sights set on a state title this year. He’s currently No. 1 in the 113-pound 2A state rankings on washingtonwrestlingreport.com.

His teammate and fellow captain, 132-pounder Cameron Rose, also has a goal of a podium finish at the state tournament.

“It’s been a difficult season,” Ward said. “We haven’t put our full lineup on the mat for a dual meet yet, and that’s been frustrating. We’ve had a few injuries and sickness. But I think we’re coming together at the right time. We’ve had a few individuals that have done well. Some have wrestled above expectation, and most have hit their expectation. We’re chugging along, and I think we’ll finish in the right place.”
