Edmonds-Woodway boys golfers improving

Because the Edmonds-Woodway boys golf team is filled with players who are relatively new to varsity golf, Warriors coach Andrew Prichard has been asking them to focus on individual skill improvement rather than specific milestones such as shooting a certain score or qualifying for the postseason.

“We’ve seen each player play close to his career-best round,” Prichard said. “I think that’s a definite positive because they know they have that ability within them. I don’t like determining success by a number, but once they have that number in mind, it gives them something to strive for. In the early part of the season they were getting their feet wet in terms of varsity play and match experience against good competition, and now they’re adapting.”

Edmonds-Woodway, which finished second and third in the first two Wesco 3A South meets, has been led by sophomore Josh Nelson and senior Ezra Beauchamp.

“I tell Josh, ‘Play your game. Don’t worry about your opponent or anything else.’ He’s working on staying within himself and he’s shown definite growth in that regard,” Prichard said. “Ezra has really come on in the last couple of weeks. He’s hitting a groove. It’s been fun to watch.”
