Whitewall Brewing IPA honors the late Cortez Kennedy

Whitewall Brewing owners Sean Wallner and Aaron Wight are both huge Seahawks fans, so when they were looking for a name for their newest creation honoring a Seattle sports legend was an easy call.

Whitewall’s newest hazy IPA, the third in a rotating series, is named Tez Hazy IPA in honor of former Seahawks defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy, who died last week at the age of 48.

“Rest in peace and thanks for being part of the team,” the brewery said in a recent newsletter.

The IPA, made in the vain of the popular Vermont-style IPAs, is brewed with Motueka, Citra and Azacca hops and Copeland malts, malted oat, flaked oats and wheat, all courtesy Skagit Valley Malting. The beer is being released in the taproom and at select taprooms and bottleshops this weekend.

Hop and Hound turns 3: Bothell’s The Hop and Hound is teaming up with Bothell’s Watts Brewing to brew a one-off IPA for the taproom’s third anniversary celebration over the weekend of June 9 through 11.

There will also be a different fruit-infused kolsch courtesy Watts Brewing and food trucks on premise each day for the celebration. The first 25 customers each day will receive a limited edition anniversary pint glass and there will be tapping of Cascade Brewing’s 2015 Black Cap Raspberry Sour on June 10.

White & Nerdy in cans: Nate McLaughlin, owner and head brewer of Everett’s Justice Brewing, recently bought a manual can seamer and has started producing 12-ounce cans of his White & Nerdy, a witbier brewed with orange peel.

McLaughlin boasted that Justice is the first Everett brewery to can its beers and said that he plans to release a few other beers in cans, save the more expensive sours and barrel-aged beers. Beside the brewery, cans of White & Nerdy will be available at The Cannery in Ballard, One Cup Coffee in Greenwood and Sno-Isle Coop in Everett. McLaughlin can also can beer on demand at the brewery.
