Community roundup: SPU runner, Kamiak alum Halladay honored

Ben Halladay is making the most of his final year of college.
The Kamiak High School graduate, now a senior at Seattle Pacific University, was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Runner of the Week last Monday for his performance at the Charles Bowles Invitational.
Halladay placed ninth at the Charles Bowles Invite on Sept. 30 in Portland, Oregon. Halladay finished the eight-kilometer race in a time of 25 minutes, 19.2 seconds. His time was 78 seconds better than when he finished 52nd in the race in 2015, and it was just 30.9 seconds behind the winner, Pacific Lutheran’s Brad Hodkinson. The other seven runners who finished ahead of Halladay were from NCAA Division I schools.
Next up for Halladay is the GNAC Championships on Oct. 21 in Bellingham. Halladay is hoping to improve on his 57th-place finish at the GNAC Championships last year.
Rohde misses cut at U.S. Mid-Amateur
Everett’s Jacob Rohde shot a two-round score of 15-over 156 and missed the cut at the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship golf tournament, which is taking place this week in Atlanta.
Rohde, making his third straight appearance at the amateur championships for post-college players, shot a 79 in the first round Saturday at Atlanta National Golf Club, then shot a 77 in the second round Monday at Capital City Club. The cut was 5-over for advancing to match play.
