Canada and the United States announced their rosters for World Junior Championship training camp. Team USA beat Team Canada 5-4 in a shootout last year for the gold medal.

Everett Silvertips goalie Carter Hart was one of 13 WHL players named to Team Canada’s preliminary roster after backstopping the Canadians to the silver medal a season ago. Training camp for the Canadians begins Dec. 12 in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Other returning players from last year’s roster include defensemen Jake Bean (Calgary), Kale Clague (Brandon) and Dante Fabbro (Boston University), and forwards Dillon Dube (Kelowna), Michael McLeod (Mississauga, OHL) and Taylor Raddysh (Erie, OHL).

Additonal WHL-invited forwards include Tyler Steenbergen (Swift Current),Sam Steel (Regina), Cody Glass (Portland), Brett Howden (Moose Jaw), Tanner Kaspick (Brandon) and Kole Lind (Kelowna). Meanwhile defenseman Dennis Cholowski (Prince George), Cal Foote (Kelowna) and Josh Mahura (Regina) were invited.

On the American side, Portland’s Kieffer Bellows is one of seven returning members from last year’s gold medal-winning squad. Spokane’s Kailer Yamamoto also earned an invitation after he was left off the roster last year.

The Silvertips take on Western Conference and U.S. Division-leading Portland tonight. In anticipation feel free to read this feature I had in today’s Herald about Snohomish County native Luke Ormsby and Wyatte Wylie suiting up for the Tips.

The Winterhawks are No. 4 in this week’s CHL poll after occupying the No. 2 slot last week:
