Carter Hart has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week for the fourth straight week. He went 3-0-0 last week with a shutout and a pair of games in which he allowed one goal. That included two wins over first-place Portland.

He’s now won the award 13 times in his WHL career.

Here’s a look at Hart’s numbers as the first half of his season comes to a close:

The good news for other WHL goaltenders is Hart’s off to World Juniors training camp this week so his string of four awards in a row will come to an end.

That’s why the emergence of Dustin Wolf is critical. Wolf will now get his chance to show he’s the goalie of the future the Tips believe him to be as he’ll get the majority (if not all) of the minutes between the pipes with Hart away at World Juniors.

Wolf is off to a terrific start. He won his first two starts back in October, and after Sunday’s 4-3 win at Portland he has beaten the Winterhawks twice. His overall numbers are 3-1-0, .952 and 1.75 GAA. All three goals he gave up Sunday were on Portland power plays.

Since Wolf debuted at Kamloops the Tips have been one of the hottest teams in the WHL:

In case you missed it Sunday, one of the big elephants in the room all season has been whether or not the Silvertips will trade Hart to a “contender.” General manager Garry Davidson is always open to listen, but told Nick Patterson that right now the Tips believe themselves to be contenders and he doesn’t plan on moving Hart.

We’ll know for sure by Jan. 10. But according to Davidson the Tips will be looking to add rather than sell.
