Everett woman investigated for using racial slurs at guards

EVERETT — An Everett woman allegedly shouted racial slurs as she attacked two African-American security guards Tuesday, when they tried to remove her from Everett Station, according to police reports filed in court.

Transit security confronted the woman at 8:10 p.m., because she was changing her clothes in a bathroom of the transit center on Smith Avenue, according to court papers. They told her that was against the station rules, and asked her to move along. She eventually came out of the restroom, but sat on a bench. A guard threatened to call the police if she didn’t leave.

She shouted, “Get away from me, you (slur) (expletive),” and threw a can of soda at him, court papers say. The can hit a guard in the chest. The guards tried to pull the woman out of the station by her hands. She repeated the slur and swung her fists at them.

The woman, who is white, told police she isn’t racist, and that she “only used the word … out of anger.” Officers took her to jail for investigation of malicious harassment, the state’s hate crime law.
