Gracin Raz finally ended Tyler Tanner’s dominating run at Evergreen Speedway.
The K&N Pro Series West racer became the first driver to unseat Tanner this season at the Monroe racetrack as he claimed the Galloway 150 Saturday night. The Galloway 150 was the second of six races in the Bud Crown Series for Super Late Models, the premier racing series at Evergreen Speedway.
Raz, who hails from Lake Oswego, Oregon, and is not a regular at Evergreen, ended up prevailing in a race that saw the lead change hands on multiple occasions.
Tanner, the defending Super Late Models points champion who won the first three races of the season, finished second. Brittney Zamora took third.
Trinidad earns All-America honors for CWU track
Arlington High School graduate Sidney Trinidad, now a sophomore on the Central Washington University women’s track and field team, earned All-American honors by finishing third in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Kingsville, Texas.
Trinidad qualified fourth with a time of 59.78 second on Thursday. Then in the final she ran a time of 59.49, which was two seconds behind the winner, Franklin Pierce senior CeCe Telfer, but just 0.28 seconds out of second.
“Sidney finishing top three for us is amazing,” Central Washington assistant coach and Lake Stevens High School graduate Brittany Aanstad told the Wildcats’ website. “Her first nationals appearance and she made a point to put her name on the national stage. She will do big things over the next two years.”
Everett CC inducting 2019 Hall of Fame class
Everett Community College is inducting two teams, four athletes and one contributor into its Athletic Hall of Fame.
The teams being inducted are the 1948 baseball team, which won the Washington State Junior College Athletic Conference championship, and the 1957 track and field team, which also won the conference championship.
The athletes being inducted are Janell Alyea, who won the Northwest Athletic Conference championship in the women’s discus in 2012; Elden Colombo, who was a men’s pole vault standout in 1970; Mike Malecki, who was a baseball star from 1964-65; and Andre Piper-Jordan, who starred on both the baseball and men’s basketball teams in 2003-04.
The contributor being honored in Rich Haldi, a longtime advocate and administrator in the athletics department.
The induction ceremony is June 7 at the Walt Price Student Fitness Center on the campus of Everett CC.
