Eight high school sports events to keep an eye on over the next week:
Boys swimming: Jackson at Shorewood, 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Shoreline Pool. This Wesco South clash features two programs that are consistently among the best in the area. Both teams are unbeaten in dual meets, with Shorewood at 4-0 and Jackson at 3-0.
Boys basketball: Jackson at Glacier Peak, 7:15 p.m. Friday. Separated by just a few miles, these rivals have combined to win each of the past three Wesco 4A titles. Glacier Peak (9-0) is off to a dominating start, having outscored opponents by 27.4 points per game. Defending conference champion Jackson (6-3) looks to bounce back this week after losing to league-title contender Mariner on Friday.
Boys basketball: Stanwood at Mountlake Terrace, 7:15 p.m. Friday. This could be a key matchup in the Wesco 3A/2A race. Stanwood (7-2) has won six straight games. The only blemish for Mountlake Terrace (6-1) was a two-point loss to Wesco 4A contender Mariner.
Girls basketball: Snohomish at Edmonds-Woodway, 7:15 p.m. Friday. After a handful of single-digit losses during an arduous non-league slate, perennial area power Snohomish (3-7) beat previously undefeated Shorecrest by 17 points Friday, showing that the Panthers are still a major factor in the Wesco 3A/2A race. Next up for Snohomish is another regular league contender in Edmonds-Woodway (5-4), which is riding a five-game win streak.
Boys swimming: Kentridge Invitational, 9 a.m. Saturday at King County Aquatic Center (Federal Way). Numerous local teams join squads from around the state at the site of the state championships for this premier midseason invitational.
Boys wrestling: Panther Classic, 10 a.m. Saturday at Snohomish H.S. Twenty teams are slated to compete in this tournament, including Arlington, Cascade, Glacier Peak, Jackson, Kamiak, Oak Harbor, Shorewood, Stanwood and host Snohomish.
Girls wrestling: A-Town Tourney, 10 a.m. Saturday at Arlington H.S. More than 20 teams are listed to compete in this tournament, including Cascade, Everett, Edmonds-Woodway, Kamiak, Lakewood, Lynnwood, Mariner, Meadowdale, Marysville Getchell, Marysville Pilchuck, Mountlake Terrace, Oak Harbor and host Arlington.
Boys basketball: Mountlake Terrace at Marysville Pilchuck, 7:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13. This showdown between the past two Wesco 3A/2A champions could have massive league-title implications. Defending conference champion Marysville Pilchuck (7-2) was picked to finish first in the league’s preseason coaches poll and Mountlake Terrace (6-1) was picked second. The teams’ three losses — all in non-league play — have come by a combined seven points.
