Goncalves scores twice, Silvertips beat Rockets

EVERETT — Gage Goncalves scored a pair of goals, including the go-ahead goal in the third period, to lift the Silvertips to a 3-2 win over the Kelowna Rockets at Angel of the Winds on Friday night.
Goncalves, a 2001-born center, scored his 20th and 21st goals of the season, the first coming on the power play at 4:58 in the second period to tie the game at 1-1 and the second at even strength at 9:04 in the third period to provide the Silvertips a 3-2 lead.
Silvertips import forward Michal Gut scored his eighth goal of the season at 15:38 in the second period to hand Everett its first lead of the night, but the Rockets answered back at 7:36 in the third at Jonas Peterek batted in a rebound for the equalizer.
Jake Lee scored the only goal in the opening 20 minutes with a power-play tally at 10:27.
Dustin Wolf made 25-of-27 saves in his first win since returning from playing for Team USA at the World Junior Championships in the Czech Republic.
The Silvertips kept pace with the Portland Winterhawks in the U.S. Division standings with the win. The Winterhawks, who lead the Silvertips by 10 points, won 5-3 over Spokane on Friday.
