Residents unharmed, but 2 dogs die in Mukilteo apartment fire

MUKILTEO — Three people escaped but two dogs died in an apartment fire Sunday night.

A neighbor at The Elliot apartments in the 9400 block of 48th Place West heard an alarm and smelled smoke around 10:30 p.m., the Mukilteo Fire Department said in a news release. Firefighters found an apartment filled with smoke and a couch on fire, which they extinguished.

The flames did not reach other units. The apartment’s residents were not home, but two pets died.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
