State auditor isn’t doing her job

Bloomberg published on Sept. 27th “Hackers Have Infiltrated Many of Washington State’s Agencies.” Pat McCarthy in 2017 supposedly was amping up cybersecurity efforts.

If cyber-security was an accomplishment, then why is our state gaining national headlines for laying down its guard? Why was Employment Security not audited as required by the law?

I wish the editorial board considered these alarming items that our current Auditor overlooked. It should not have required headlines in major papers to take action. The best government servants get ahead of problems before a small issue become a serious crisis.

I reached out to candidate Chris Leyba about why he was unable to be present for the previously scheduled interview. He told me he had a family friend pass away suddenly at the time it was scheduled. I wish The Herald editorial board had reached out and asked what may have happened and be understanding when someone is going through a tough emotional time like all of us are going through right now.

Editor’s note: Had Mr. Leyba informed the board of his inability to make the scheduled meeting, we would have sought to reschedule.
