What: Sedum kimnachii is an excellent groundcover plant, particularly for hot, dry sites with poor soil. This variety forms a flat, dense carpet of glossy chartreuse leaves. Clusters of golden-yellow flowers appear in early summer. Sedum kimnachii is well suited for the rock garden or edging in a dry border, also a good choice for containers. Also known as Mexican sedum, the plant makes a good companion for Eryngium amethystinum “Sapphire Blue.” Grow in a lean soil for beautiful orange and green winter color.

Where: This sedum is best grown in well-drained or sandy soil. The best flowering is in full sun, but it will tolerate light shade and still look good.

Size: The plant grows to be 6 inches tall and spreads to 1 foot wide when mature.

Care: Once established, Mexican sedum it is drought tolerant. Cut it to the ground in fall.
