Snohomish County Councilman Nate Nehring to seek re-election

ARLINGTON — Snohomish County Councilman Nate Nehring announced on Monday that he will seek re-election this year.

Nehring, a Republican, represents District 1, which includes Arlington, Darrington, Granite Falls, Marysville, Stanwood and unincorporated areas of northern Snohomish County.

Now 25, he became the youngest person to serve on the council in 2017, when he was appointed after former District 1 Councilman Ken Klein stepped down to work for County Executive Dave Somers. That fall, Nehring was elected to a full four-year term.

Before he was appointed to the council, he worked as a middle school science teacher and served as vice chairman of the Stanwood Planning Commission. His father, Jon Nehring, is the mayor of Marysville.

No one else has announced plans to run for Nehring’s seat.

“It has been an honor to serve the residents of North Snohomish County on the County Council for the last four years,” said Nehring, who lives in Arlington. “During my first term, I have prioritized balanced budgets with no tax increases, supporting public safety and growing jobs in Snohomish County. I look forward to the opportunity to continue serving the citizens of District 1 for the next four years.”
