ARLINGTON — The southbound I-5 bridge span across the Stillaguamish River was to reopen Tuesday morning after months of closure.

Paint and preservation work required that the bridge be closed since June. During the work, drivers shared the northbound bridge’s lanes, which frequently backed up traffic.

Crews from Southern Road & Bridge, the contractor for the Washington State Department of Transportation, were scheduled to begin reopening two of the three southbound bridge lanes at 10 p.m. Monday.

From Monday night until 5 a.m. Tuesday, the southbound off-ramp at Pioneer Highway East was to be closed. Similarly, the southbound on-ramp at 236th Street NE was to be closed until 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Northbound I-5 will still be down to two lanes for more work in the freeway median, and the speed limit will still be reduced to 55 mph through the work area.
