3A STATE TOURNAMENT

Winner to quarterfinals, loser to first round

Lake Washington 68, Snohomish 62 (OT)

BELLEVUE — Fourth-seeded Lake Washington rallied from 10 points down with two minutes to play in regulation to force overtime, and outscored No. 5 Snohomish by six in the extra period to win the 3A state tournament non-elimination game on Friday night.

Lake Washington (19-4), advanced straight to quarterfinals of the Hardwood Classic at the Tacoma Dome.

Snohomish (15-4) will face the winner of Saturday’s game between No. 13 Gig Harbor and No. 12 Bonney Lake in the first round on Wednesday.

2A STATE TOURNAMENT

Archbishop Murphy 37, W.F. West 36

TUMWATER — Taylor Campbell and Hannah Humphrey scored 12 points each and No. 5 seed Archbishop Murphy held off a second-half surge from No. 4 W.F. West in a non-elimination 2A state tournament game on Friday night.

The Wildcats led 29-15 at halftime, but struggled offensively in the second half before coming up with clutch free throws to seal the game.

Archbishop Murphy (14-6) advanced directly to the state quarterfinals at the Yakima Valley SunDome with the win.

W.F. West (20-5) will face 12th-seeded Lynden in the first round of the Hardwood Classic on Wednesday.

1B STATE TOURNAMENT

Winner to first round, loser out

Cusick 57, Grace Academy 48

EVERETT — The No. 12-seeded Grace Academy girls basketball team fell one win short of its first-ever trip to the Hardwood Classic, suffering a loss to No. 13 seed Cusick in a Class 1B loser-out state regional Friday night at Everett Community College.

Zia Fackenthal scored 21 points for the Eagles, but Cusick (16-5) closed the game with 10 straight points to surge ahead and advance to next week’s 1B Hardwood Classic in Spokane.

It was the second time in the past three full-length seasons that Grace Academy (10-5) has come within one win of reaching its first Hardwood Classic. The Eagles made their first-ever state appearance in 2019, but lost their state regional game that year too.
