EDMONDS — The person shot by a police officer Friday at a motel on Highway 99 was a man in his 40s who allegedly held a knife, according to investigators. He later died of his injuries.

The shooting happened at about noon, when Edmonds police were called to the 22100 block of Highway 99 for a domestic violence incident involving the man and an adult woman, according to a news release from the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART).

“The suspect advanced at officers while armed with a knife,” the SMART news release said. One officer shocked him with a stun gun. When the man kept moving toward police, another officer fired a gun.

Officers immediately tried to revive the man, according to the news release. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died of his injuries.

His name has not yet been released. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner will identify him, as well as determine the cause and manner of his death.

All officers were OK, according to Edmonds police.

The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, which is investigating the shooting, reviews incidents of police use-of-force.
