Goshorn spent 34 years as the head coach of both the Lynnwood boys and girls cross country teams, leading the Royals to five state championships.
Goshorn was hired to coach the cross country teams when Lynnwood opened in 1970. His girls teams won state championships in 1988, 1989 and 1990, and his boys teams claimed state titles in 1993 and 1994. He also coached several individual state champions including Eric Hruschka, Joey Johnson, Pat Haller and Stephanie Malnack.
When not coaching Lynnwood’s cross country teams, he was an assistant for the Royals’ track teams, helping Lynnwood win a girls state title in 1990 and a boys state title in 1994. After retiring from Lynnwood in 2002, he resurfaced as an assistant cross country and track coach at Lake Stevens and Jackson, helping those programs achieve success.
Goshorn was named The Herald’s Man of the Year in Sports for 1993, and he was named the Washington State Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1998. He is also part of an elite group of Snohomish County coaches who are members of the 100-Season Club as coaches who have served as head coach or assistant coach for 100 or more high school seasons.
