SNOHOMISH — A trip to the grocery store made a Snohomish resident a millionaire.

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, was shopping at the Safeway in Snohomish when she decided to purchase lottery tickets from the vending machine, according to a Washington’s Lottery press release.

She noticed “Let it Ride,” a Scratch game she had never seen before. She and her mother shared a favorite casino game with the same name, the press release said. Because of the coincidence, she decided to buy a ticket with the $20 she had won playing another lottery game.

When the ticket revealed the prize, the woman was in disbelief. She went to check with Safeway employees, who confirmed she had won $1 million.

The woman and her husband plan to take a cruise together with her winnings.

According to the Washington’s Lottery “luckiest retailers” list, Snohomish County had eight of the luckiest stores in 2021.
