Murphy grad Abraham Lucas set to return to Seahawks practice

Abraham Lucas is on his way back.

The Archbishop Murphy High School graduate, who’s now the starting right tackle for the Seattle Seahawks, will be returning to practice this week following a lengthy injury layoff, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Monday.

Lucas, who’s in his second season, earned the No. 1 spot at right tackle last year as a rookie, starting 16 of Seattle’s 17 games during the regular season. He started the Seahawks’ opener this season, but was placed on injured reserve afterwards because of knee injury and has missed eight games.

However, Lucas will rejoin practices this week. The Seahawks will have a 21-day window to activate Lucas off injured reserve and restore him to the 53-man roster.

“Abe is going to be practicing this week,” Carroll said during his Monday press conference.

“We don’t even know (if Lucas will be able to play Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams),” Carroll added. “We’re going to see. We’re going to see what he does, what he looks like and how he feels about it and how he responds to the workload of the actual football stuff. He has a chance, he could. We’ll see what happens.”

Stone Forsythe has started at right tackle in Lucas’ absence. The Seahawks also brought in 41-year-old former Pro Bowler Jason Peters as a free agent, and Peters has split snaps with Forsythe the past three weeks.
