Lake Stevens volleyball team advances to state semifinal

YAKIMA — The fourth-seeded Lake Stevens volleyball team advanced to the Class 4A state tournament semifinals on Friday night with a 3-2 quarterfinal victory over No. 5 Camas at the Yakima Valley SunDome.

The set scores were 27-29, 25-19, 25-22, 26-28 and 15-10. With the victory, the Vikings will take on Curtis at 10 a.m. Saturday for a spot in the championship game. No. 1 Curtis defeated Lake Stevens in its non-league season opener on Sept. 11.

The Vikings, who will finish in the top four for the third straight season, knocked off No. 13 Tahoma, 3-1, in the first round with set scores of 25-20, 22-25, 28-26 and 25-21.

Lake Stevens (19-3) was the only local team to advance to the Class 4A or 3A quarterfinals.

No. 16 Arlington

Top-seeded Curtis swept the Eagles by scores of 25-9, 25-15 and 25-18 in the first round, but Arlington stayed alive for a Top 8 finish by taking down No. 8 Issaquah, 3-2, in a loser-out consolation match. The Eagles (15-7 overall) were scheduled to play No. 13 Tahoma at 8 a.m. Saturday.

No. 12 Glacier Peak

Fifth-seeded Camas defeated the Grizzlies in the first round 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 25-21). GP (19-4 overall) was then eliminated by No. 13 Tahoma by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-22.

CLASS 3A

No. 12 Snohomish

Seattle Prep, seeded fifth, swept the Panthers by scores of 25-14, 25-8, 25-11. In a loser-out consolation match, Snohomish knocked out Stanwood 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23). Snohomish (14-7 overall) remains alive for a Top 8 finish and will face Lynnwood at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

No. 9 Lynnwood

Liberty, the eighth seed, edged the Royals, 3-2, by winning the final two sets. Lynnwood bounced back later on Friday with a sweep of No. 16 Bishop Blanchet (25-22, 25-19, 25-18) in a loser-out game. Lynnwood (15-7 overall) and Snohomish square off 10 a.m. Saturday with a spot in the seventh place-eighth place game on the line.

No. 13 Stanwood

The Spartans swept No. 20 Lakes in a play-in game to advance to the double-elimination bracket. Stanwood (15-6 overall) was later eliminated after a 3-0 loss to West Seattle and a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Snohomish.
