NEWBURG, Ore. — Kimberly Beard, a junior at King’s High School, won the 20-pound weight throw event Saturday at an indoor track meet at George Fox University.

Representing the Get Strong First Track Club, Beard hurled the weight a new personal best 53 feet, 11.75 inches for the win against college and club athletes. Ranked first among U.S. prep throwers at the end of the outdoor season in the hammer throw, the Mukilteo resident is ranked sixth nationally with the hammer’s indoor cousin in a very tight race coming up to the Nike and New Balance High School Indoor National Championships in New York and Boston, respectively, in March.
