Flood resources: Where to find emergency shelter, sandbags

EVERETT — As an atmospheric river causes record-breaking flooding across Snohomish County, resources are available for those affected by flood damage.

Emergency shelter, stabling

The American Red Cross is offering free emergency shelter at the Evergreen State Fair Park in the 4-H Building. Pets are accepted.

There is also emergency stabling for livestock, excluding dogs, at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. Contact Jeff Ritter: 425-309-2655.

More emergency stabling for livestock, excluding swine, is available at the Darrington Rodeo Grounds, 42109 SR 530 NE, Darrington, WA 9824. Contact Gabby Wesson (425) 407-2899. Stables are uncovered.

The county’s seven cold weather shelters are open during the flooding event:

• Monroe Cold Weather Shelter at Monroe Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 14118 Chain Lake Road

Free storage available

U-Haul is offering 30 days of free self-storage and container usage at its western Washington facilities for people affected by the Snohomish River flooding.

Nine facilities are part of the program, including in Everett and Lynnwood.

The Everett facility is located at 6443 Evergreen Way, and the Lynnwood facility is located at 14429 Highway 99.

The county is sharing information on social media during the event but strongly encourages people to monitor the flood page on the Snohomish County Public Safety Hub for updates and quick access to key resources, including real-time river gauges, interactive maps and alerts. River gauge alerts: https://snohomish.onerain.com, click “Subscribe to Flood Notifications,” select which river basin you are interested in then select the gauge. This lets you monitor river levels at specific locations in real time.

The county is updating its road closure map every 15 minutes during the flood event.

Snohomish County has a Flood Safety Guide available on its website.

Snohomish County Health Department has guidance on cleaning up after a flood. A checklist is also available in English and Spanish. The county advises residents to check on septic systems and wells in addition to homes. If your water system has been affected, use bottled, treated or boiled water to avoid illness, per county health department guidance.
