Video: Fire crews extinguish vehicle fire on I-5 Friday morning

EVERETT — South County Fire extinguished a vehicle fire Friday morning on northbound 1-5 in Everett.

Just before 10 a.m. Friday, firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle on fire just south of milepost 186, according to a South County Fire social media post. Upon arrival, they discovered the engine compartment of a Jeep Liberty was fully engulfed in flames, and the passenger was outside the vehicle.

Firefighters extinguished the fire in less than three minutes, preventing it from spreading to the vehicle’s passenger area, the post said. No injuries were reported.

The incident briefly blocked the high-occupancy vehicle lane and left lane, according to a Washington State Department of Transportation social media post. Shortly after 10 a.m., the roadway reopened.
