Through two days of Seahawks training camp, it seems the thing for the players to do is wear t-shirts with meaning when they do interviews at the podium. On Saturday it was defensive end Michael Bennett who did his interview wearing a Black Lives Matter t-shirt. On Sunday it was receiver Doug Baldwin who got in on the act.
Baldwin took the podium wearing a shirt with “45” on it. When asked, Baldwin revealed the t-shirt had to do with a visit he and some teammates made to Joint Base Lewis-McChord just outside Tacoma.
“I took a few guys to JBLM to hang out with some combat divers, and we spent a whole day down there and they kicked our butts in some training,” Baldwin explained. “At the end of the day they gave us these shirts. It was a very humbling experience that we got to enjoy, so a few of the guys who wear these shirts, we’re just representing what it means to be a combat diver and show our appreciation for everything they showed us and taught us.”
The 45 represents the combat divers’ team number.
