Every year The Daily Herald takes nominations and lets readers vote for the Best of Snohomish County Awards. This year, 80,000 votes were cast. There are dozens of categories, but here are the 2023 top choices for best fish and chips:

First Place: Ivar’s in Mukilteo, Everett, Bothell, Edmonds, Marysville

Ivar Haglund was an aquarium owner before he was the iconic seafood restauranteur dubbed the “King” of the waterfront. He opened the first Seattle aquarium on Pier 54 in 1938 which attracted large crowds and long lines. Observing that his visitors often came hungry, Haglund introduced red clam chowder and fish n’ chips as menu options.

Over the next 86 years, Ivar’s expanded to 21 dining locations across the Pacific Northwest, with 5 in Snohomish County. Their fish and chip menu includes Alaska True Cod, Wild Alaska Halibut, Wild Alaska Salmon and more.

Second Place: Andy’s Fish House in Snohomish

Third Place: Ray’s Drive In in Everett
