2025 Chevy Trax Activ Delivers Beyond Expectations

Sub-Compact SUV Surprises With Value And Features

Chevy’s Trax is the perfect choice for customers seeking the practicality of a compact car and the utility of an entry-level, sub-compact SUV.

The 2025 Trax Activ features a new exterior design to complement its larger persona and robust array of standard safety features. Trax also comes in LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS trims, with the base model starting near $20,000.

“Trax has everything you need and nothing you don’t,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “More space. More features. More style. This is an entry-level vehicle that will surprise and delight customers with its value and plays a critical role as the gateway into the Chevy brand.”

My tester was powered by an Ecotec 1.2-liter, inline-three, turbocharged engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It seats five adults with a generous cargo area, sports a 380-mile range, GM-estimated 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, and delivers 30 miles per gallon fuel economy in combined city and highway driving.

Additional new features on most trims include push-button start, automatic climate control, wireless phone charging and more. Cruise control is also standard equipment on all models and adaptive cruise control is available on some trims, a first for Trax.

ACTIV trim features include a rugged appearance package, 18-inch black-painted aluminum wheels, an 11-inch HD touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and the Chevy Safety Assist package with automatic emergency braking. Other features include a six-speaker sound system, wireless charging, heated steering wheel, and a heated, eight-way power, driver’s seat.

My tester included a “Sunroof Package” ($895) with power sliding glass and manual shade, and a “Driver Confidence Package” ($795) with rear cross-traffic alert, lane change alert, side blind-zone alert, rear park assist, and the previously mentioned adaptive cruise control.

Additional interior creature comforts include remote vehicle start, 11-inch advanced color LCD display, active noise cancellation, Sirius XM radio, and an eight-inch diver information center. Behind the rear row, Trax provides 25.6 cubic feet of cargo space. With the rear seats folded down, capacity increases to 54.1 cubic feet, on par or better than its competition.

Key changes to the refreshed exterior include a more aggressive front fascia, updated headlights and grille, and new body lines. The cabin benefits from the use of upgraded materials and a redesigned dashboard, with an improved infotainment system.

When it comes to safety and driver awareness technology, Trax ups the ante with new, standard Chevy Safety Assist — a suite of six advanced safety and driver awareness technologies that include:

• Automatic Emergency Braking

• Front Pedestrian Braking

• Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning

• Forward Collision Alert

• IntelliBeam auto high-beam control

• Following Distance Indicator

After a week behind the wheel of the Chevy Trax Activ its easy to forget you’re driving an entry-level, sub-compact SUV with a price tag under $30k. It delivers beyond expectations, and provides price-conscious family buyers a choice worthy of their trust.
